the big sister project
The 'Big Sister' Project is a mentoring project focusing on training young women and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 on the provisions of the Sexual Offences Act 2006, career counseling, mentoring and training on reproductive health. The global objective of the project is undertaking training and information sharing on lifestyle choices, social and business management skills to ensure that the trainees, who are women and girls, receive extensive knowledge of the provisions of the Sexual Offences Act, while at the same time learning about career development and entrepreneurship with particular regard to the opportunities presented by the Youth Enterprise Fund and the Women's Endowment Fund. The 'Big Sister' Project was initiated in the year 2006 just after the enactment of the Sexual Offences Act by Hon. Njoki Ndungu. The project is ongoing and is being implemented by CLICK in conjunction with other civil society organisations. The project activities include visiting secondary schools around the country and conducting seminars on sexual violence. |
